It’s a little crazy around here tonight; Holland just beat France 4 goals to 1. They beat Italy the other day, so they’re doing great! Hup Holland!

UPDATE! (22 June 08) Well, last evening Holland was put out of the EURO 2008 by Russia, 1 - 3. It was a highly emotional game, and it’s sad to see Holland go down. They put up a good fight though!

Thank you God for five years without getting high.

Mother’s Day is special to me, of course, because I have a fabulous mother! Mom is the most faithful person I know. She has always been that way, as long as I can remember. She learned to play the piano at a young age, and she has used the talent God gave her to bring Him glory. I am truly blessed to have such a person as a mother. She went through a lot in her life, but she never turned away from God. She worked under a jerk of a boss for several years and came home to grab a quick meal before teaching piano lessons until about 9 pm most nights. On Saturdays, she would teach most of the day. Then, on Sundays she would play at church (and Wednesday nights + choir practice). She still plays at church to this day! She is 84 years of age, and I thank God for having such a mother!

Love you mama! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

We just got back from Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, the Netherlands. Wow! what a beautiful place! Sarah took 443 photos, and I took about 200, and I also took, Lord knows, how much video! It’s about a 2.5 hour drive for us, and it was well worth it. There was a special orchid display there today, but we never found it! We never got away from all the tulips! If you ever get a chance to visit this place, do yourself a favor, and do it! I walked away from Keukenhof with a special feeling of overwhelming serenity today. Thank you God for your magnificent beauty once again. Some people go through life looking in all the wrong places for beauty and peace of mind. I’m thankful that God showed me where to look when I was ready to see.

Today is the final day of the first week of the new term in my college studies with the University of Maryland - Europe. I’m taking two distance learning classes this time - Understanding Movies (HUMN 334) and Research and Expository Writing (WRTG 291). This first week has been rather slow, sort of an introduction week where all the students get to know each other and the professors. I’m sure things are going to pick-up this next week. It is amazing learning all this stuff in my late forties. God is good all the time!

As we lift up our hands
Will you meet us here?
As we call on your name
Will you meet us here?
We have come to this place
To worship you
God of mercy and grace

It is you
We adore
It is you
Praises are for
Only you
The heaven’s declare
It is you
It is you

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone, yeah
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

It is you
We adore
It is you
It is you

As we lift up our hands
As we call on your name
Will you visit this place
By your mercy and grace
Holy, holy is his name alone

Today we leave for Normandy where the great D-Day battle took place. I started to take a weekend seminar course about “Operation Overlord”, but it was cancelled due to not having enough participants. I’ve watched several videos about the battle, so now I will get to see where these events actually took place.

We are staying in a small castle, which will be a first for me, which was used by the American Press Corps as a home base for the coverage of Overlord. I am excited about going! Now, I must get in the shower!!!!

I hope to post pictures of Berlin and Normandy very soon!

Well, we had a great trip to Berlin. I must admit my expectations of Berlin were somewhat low - I only expected a normal European city. Berlin seems to have an extraordinary personality filled with remnants of the past, but the capital city of Germany has great hope for the future. We will most likely be going back this summer when the tops will be removed from the tour buses. As we rode past a section of the old wall that still stands, our tour guide informed us about something known as “woodpeckers” - tourists or people that used to removed pieces of the old wall for souveniers. We didn’t get to see the zoo or aquarium, but we hope to next time. We did make it to KaDeWe which is the largest department store on the European continent. What a place! The whole sixth floor is nothing but food! I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life. It is a must see when touring Berlin. We got only a glimpse of “Checkpoint Charlie”; we didn’t get off the bus at that stop because of our time allowance. We did spend some time at the Sony Center which is a very nice display of architechture. There is much more to see, and I am looking forward to our next visit to Berlin…

In about an hour-and-a-half from now, I’ll be taking the Psychology 100 final. I have put in several hours of studying, so I hope to have an exceptional performance. I’ve learned a lot about human behavior and the factors that affect its shape. I went through a lot of my life not understanding what caused my to be the way I am. This course has shed light on a lot of this misunderstanding.

I will have a nice long break of about four weeks until I start my next courses, which consists of Understanding Movies (satisfies the general education requirement for arts and humanities) and Expository and Research Writing. Because of being approved for a loan and being awarded a scholorship, I will be able to take two classes this term!

I am determined to get a college degree…

Today is a good day for me - I finally received my Computer Studies Certifcate from the University of Maryland. I have to admit that I’m feeling pretty good about myself at the moment! My next goal is an Associate’s Degree in Computer Studies from UMUC. I am making progress, and I’m learning a lot while doing it! After the Associate’s, I hope to acquire a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Information Science from UMUC. It’s amazing learning all this stuff after living almost a half century. I have something that the younger students don’t - EXPERIENCE! I’ve been there and done that! Another thing that amazes me is how I can make good grades in college level courses after doing drugs and alcohol all those years. It’s just an example of God’s renewing of the mind. I give HIM ALL the PRAISE!
